COQUITLAM, B.C. - Daniel Ives scored five goals to lead Team England to a 24-5 win to open the 2008 ILF U-19 Men's
Lacrosse World Championships at Percy Perry Stadium.
England opened the scoring at the 3:50 mark of the first period when Anthony Hayes beat the Japan goalie to make it
1-0. England built up a 3-0 lead after Ives scored his first two goals about 4 minutes apart. After the first
period the score was 6-1 for England.
England scored eight goals in the second period by eight different players to build their lead to 14-2 at half time
and led 18-4 after three periods. Zac Guy had three goals for England and seven players had two goals each. When
it was all said and done, England had 11 different goal scorers.
England plays their second game of the tournament against Canada tomorrow at 8 p.m. which should prove to be a more
competitive game.
Japan was led by Tsuguta Saito with three goals and Yohei Nagashima and Jun Motoshita chipping in with a goal each.
Both teams shared the goaltending duties between both of their goaltenders.
Japan plays their next game tomorrow against the Iroquois Nationals at 12:45 p.m. at Percy Perry Stadium.
